Clariant’s Chromium-free HySat catalyst platform for hydrogenation processes won “Best Catalyst Technology”


Clariant secured two major accolades at the 2025 Gulf Energy Information Excellence Awards, winning "Best Catalyst Technology" for its new chromium-free HySat platform and "Best Petrochemical Technology" for its joint EDHOX innovation with Linde.

Clariant also earned finalist spots for its StyroMax UL-100 catalysts and VIVAZ services in the categories of “Best Catalyst Technology” and “Best Health, Safety or Environmental Contribution (Upstream).”

The awards highlight Clariant’s continued leadership in sustainable, high-performance chemical innovations that meet the demands of modern industry while reducing environmental impact.

The HySat Cr-free catalyst platform is a major breakthrough in hydrogenation, eliminating hazardous hexavalent chromium (Cr VI) while matching or exceeding the performance of conventional catalysts. Its versatile formats—tablets and powders—allow seamless integration into existing production systems, enhancing safety, compliance, and sustainability across applications such as oxo-alcohols, fatty alcohols, and SMPO processes.

Meanwhile, EDHOX Technology, co-developed with Linde, revolutionizes petrochemical production by converting ethane and oxygen into polymer-grade ethylene and glacial acetic acid in a single, energy-efficient step.

Operating below 400°C and under mild pressure, the process uses OxyMax E catalyst and electrified molten salt reactors to achieve high selectivity, reduce equipment wear, and cut Scope 1 CO₂ emissions by at least 60%. EDHOX also offers CAPEX and OPEX savings and up to 5% greater carbon efficiency compared to conventional methods, making it ideal for greenfield projects, retrofits, and downstream integration.
