Following its acquisition of Pontacol, Covestro will also feature selected thermoplastic adhesive film products fully integrated into its portfolio
Covestro, a leading polymer manufacturer, is set to unveil a range of innovative material solutions designed to boost performance, sustainability, and productivity across the textile industry at Techtextil 2026,. From April 21–24, three Covestro expert teams will showcase applications spanning technical and smart textiles, functional apparel, and automotive components.
Following its acquisition of Pontacol, Covestro will also feature selected thermoplastic adhesive film products fully integrated into its portfolio. “Pontacol solutions expand the company’s range of adhesive and functional film offerings for customers across key markets,” the company said.
Covestro’s Textile Coatings team will spotlight waterborne, partially bio-based, and mass-balanced polyurethane (PU) technologies for demanding coated textile applications.
Highlights include an automotive door panel concept developed with Marquardt Group and E Ink, featuring a responsive color-changing e-paper display beneath a transparent PU-coated synthetic surface. Based on Covestro’s INSQIN PU technology, the panel enables vivid display visibility while meeting automotive performance and haptic standards.
The team will also demonstrate antimicrobial PU-coated textiles that combine INSQIN with AGXX technology from Heraeus Precious Metals, offering enhanced hygiene and durability in high-contact applications.
The Specialty Films team will present its high-performance thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films, including Dureflex and Platilon, engineered for industries from automotive interiors to sports equipment and cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) systems.
Visitors can explore smart concepts where TPU films serve as substrates for flexible printed electronics in protective apparel. Platilon® TPU films, for example, enable integrated electroluminescent features that improve visibility and safety in low-light conditions.
Covestro’s TPU team will introduce Desmopan AIR, a recyclable, versatile material for cushioning applications. Desmopan AIR allows manufacturers to create high-quality cushioning products with improved sustainability and can integrate with other TPU applications to enable monomaterial designs.
The team will also showcase Desmopan FLY, a low-viscosity TPU for Supercritical Fluid (SCF) foam injection molding. This ultra-flexible material supports the production of thin, durable films and textiles that combine wear resistance with reduced weight.
Covestro’s Techtextil presence underscores its mission to help textile manufacturers meet evolving regulatory, environmental, and market demands without sacrificing efficiency or performance.
“We look forward to presenting our material solutions at Techtextil and demonstrating how they can translate into practical progress for the textile industry,” said Torsten Pohl, Head of Global Textile Coatings at Covestro. “Together with our partners and customers, we will continue to explore applications that support more sustainable products and more efficient manufacturing.”
