The new agreement replaces their original 2017 MoC and is designed to align with the agencies' current legal frameworks
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) signed an updated Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to reinforce their collaboration. The new agreement replaces their original 2017 MoC and is designed to align with the agencies' current legal frameworks.
EASA, through its partnership with ECHA, contributes to the exchange of information on restricted or authorised chemicals relevant to the aviation sector, thereby ensuring that aviation safety is maintained without compromising environmental or health protection.
The aviation industry uses chemicals with very specific characteristics, for example, to prevent corrosion and to withstand the extreme conditions in flight. EASA certification ensures that these aviation safety standards are met. At the same time EU Chemical regulations ensure that these same chemicals do not harm health or the environment.
The two agencies will collaborate on areas of common interest, exchange information and work programmes, participate in joint meetings and working groups, consult each other and undertake joint projects and communication activities.
The new MOC replaces the original agreement from 2017 and is updated to reflect the current legal frameworks governing the two agencies.
