Lysine is one of the most limiting amino acids in ruminant nutrition and a critical driver of animal performance

Evonik is strengthening its ruminant nutrition portfolio with the launch of Lypron, a rumen-protected lysine solution designed to improve livestock performance, sharpen feed efficiency and reduce reliance on costly protein sources.

Developed in collaboration with French coating technology specialist Sipena, which will exclusively manufacture the product for Evonik, Lypron delivers metabolizable lysine where ruminants need it most, helping producers optimize nutrient utilization and improve feeding efficiency.

Lysine is one of the most limiting amino acids in ruminant nutrition and a critical driver of animal performance. By providing a high and reliable supply of metabolizable lysine, Lypron enables more precise amino acid balancing, potentially improving farm profitability while reducing the need for expensive protein ingredients.

“With Lypron, we are expanding our ruminant solutions to complement our established products like Mepron,” said Marion Hax, Head of the Specialty Nutrition Product Line at Evonik Animal Nutrition. “Completing our amino acid balancing concept allows us to support customers in achieving both higher performance and more sustainable feeding strategies.”

Beyond performance and cost savings, Lypron is designed to help livestock producers improve the environmental efficiency of their feeding strategies. By enabling better dietary amino acid balance, the product supports low-protein diets that optimize nitrogen utilization and can reduce nitrogen excretion without compromising productivity.

“Lypron helps nutritionists optimize amino acid supply, increase productivity, and reduce reliance on excess dietary protein, which is increasingly important both economically and environmentally,” said Claudia Parys, Global Head of the Ruminant Business at Evonik Animal Nutrition.

The launch also gives producers greater flexibility to formulate low-protein and reduced-soy diets. As a non-GMO solution, Lypron addresses market requirements in regions where GMO-free production is essential, while supporting high performance standards.
