The 6th edition of the Responsible Care Conference comes at a pivotal time for the regional chemical industry
The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) will host the 6th Responsible Care Conference from October 13–15, 2025, at the Sheraton Bahrain Hotel, Manama, bringing together regional and global industry leaders to explore the future of sustainability, safety, and digital transformation in the chemical sector.
Held under the theme “The Future of Responsible Care: Intelligent. Transparent. Resilient.”, the three-day conference will feature a comprehensive program of keynote addresses, strategic panel discussions, technical sessions, and interactive workshops.
The event will begin on October 13 with pre-conference sessions focused on best practices in contractor management, followed by a Responsible Care Implementation Workshop led by Daniel Roczniak, Senior Director, Responsible Care, American Chemistry Council.
The main conference will open on October 14 with welcome remarks by Khalid Al Alyani, Vice President, Global EHSS, SABIC, and Vice-Chairman, GPCA Responsible Care Committee, followed by an inaugural address by Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, CEO, Bapco Refining. A fireside chat titled “From Incident to Industry Leadership through Responsible Care” will feature Khalid Al Dawood, Managing Director and CEO, NATPET, and Mitchell Toomey, Vice President, Sustainability and Responsible Care, American Chemistry Council.
On October 15, the conference will include a dedicated session on cybersecurity, led by Naofel Nasim, Vice President, Cyber Risk, Marsh, and Peter Clayton, Dubai Energy Engineering Hub Leader, Marsh. A leadership masterclass led by Alfredo Karam, Principal Consultant – Leadership and Culture Transformation Practitioner, dss+, will provide participants with valuable insights into building and sustaining a strong safety culture in today’s rapidly changing world.
The 6th edition of the Responsible Care Conference comes at a pivotal time for the regional chemical industry. According to the GPCA Performance Metrics Report 2024, GPCA members achieved a 33 per cent reduction in Tier 1 process safety incidents, a 9 per cent decrease in hazardous waste intensity, and total GHG emissions below 100 million metric tons of CO₂ equivalent—demonstrating the region’s steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship and operational excellence.

The conference will also host the 4th GPCA Responsible Care Excellence Awards, recognizing companies and individuals for outstanding achievements in Responsible Care, alongside the 2nd GPCA Carbon Neutrality Cup, celebrating exceptional senior undergraduate and postgraduate students from STEM disciplines across the GCC for their innovative contributions toward a net-zero future.
