The drive collected more than 10 tonnes of plastic waste during a 3-hour session

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), in association with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), National Service Scheme (NSS) units from various colleges in Mumbai, and a non-governmental organization (NGO) partner, came together for a joint beach cleaning drive at Girgaum Chowpatty. This remarkable initiative aimed to combat beach pollution and promote a pristine and healthier coastline.

With over 150 volunteers including HPCL employees, the drive collected more than 10 tonnes of plastic waste during a 3-hour session amidst the monsoon showers. Participants were provided with necessary cleaning equipment and actively segregated waste for proper disposal.

Deputy Inspector General of the Indian Coast Guard, Shri Anurag Kaushik, commended the efforts of HPCL, college students, and other volunteers for their contribution to the success of this program. He expressed his gratitude to all participants, encouraging others to join the movement of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' (Clean India Campaign).

Jayant Gupta, Executive Director-IS at HPCL, emphasized the importance of voluntary work as outlined in the Swachhta Shapath (Cleanliness Oath). He urged students, Indian Coast Guard officers, and employees to make beach cleaning activities a regular habit and instill the same values in their family members and friends.

Under the ongoing Swachhta Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight), an observance aimed at raising awareness and sensitizing the masses, HPCL has been actively carrying out various activities. More than 200 cleanliness-related initiatives have been undertaken by HPCL Swachhta Warriors in collaboration with diverse stakeholders across the country.
