The new material is produced entirely from 100% bio-attributed renewable feedstock, delivering a 172% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional polystyrene
INEOS Styrolution, a global leader in styrenics, has successfully commercialized its 100% bio-attributed polystyrene, Styrolution PS 158K BC100. Since early 2025, food trays made from this bio-based material have been available on the shelves in Japan through a partnership with a prominent retail franchise.
Styrolution PS 158K BC100 is produced using an ISCC-certified mass balance approach and is made from 100% bio-attributed feedstock. This results in an impressive 172% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional fossil-based polystyrene.
“We are thrilled to mark this milestone in integrating bio-attributed materials into everyday life,” says Marcela Villegas, Vice President of Business Management APAC at INEOS Styrolution. “This achievement demonstrates that sustainability can be realized while fully meeting regulatory standards, enabling businesses to advance their environmental goals without compromising on quality or safety.”
