Durabio is a bioengineering plastic made from isosorbide


The Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG Group) is announcing that its plant-derived bioengineering plastic Durabio will be used in the handle of the Sunstar Group’s Ora2 Premium Smooth Fit Toothbrush. The product is the first toothbrush on the domestic market to receive biomass plastic mark certification. It is being launched nationwide on February 14, 2024. This is the first time that Durabio is being used in a toothbrush.

Durabio is a bioengineering plastic made from isosorbide, a renewable plant-derived raw material. It helps reduce the consumption of petroleum, a finite nonrenewable resource, and also contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions because the plants that are used as its raw material absorb CO2 during their growth.

Durabio provides excellent impact resistance and scratch resistance, and is being used in a wide range of fields, including automotive interior and exterior parts, optical and electronic device components, and everyday sundries.
