Novonesis is investing €600 million to expand its Patalganga facility in India and build one of the world’s most advanced enzyme production sites, as the biosolutions giant moves to meet surging global demand and strengthen its supply network.

 

The expansion is expected to be fully operational by 2030 and will significantly increase Novonesis’ production capacity for enzymes used across industries including biofuels, household care, and food and beverages.

 

The investment marks a major step in Novonesis’ growth strategy and will expand the company’s ability to serve customers across the Middle East, India and Africa—markets that are becoming an increasingly important part of its business and are expected to outpace developed markets in the coming years.

The new facility will be integrated into Novonesis’ global production footprint, bringing manufacturing closer to customers in key growth markets while adding greater flexibility and resilience to the company’s global supply chain.

The Patalganga project is the latest in a series of investments aimed at strengthening Novonesis’ global manufacturing network. The company has also expanded facilities in Rayong, Thailand; Franklinton, North Carolina; Taicang, China; Araucaria, Brazil; and West Allis, Wisconsin.

 

The investments are aligned with Novonesis’ broader strategy and previously communicated capital expenditure plans.

 

Novonesis says the Patalganga facility will be designed to produce more while using less water and energy. Freshwater recycling will reduce the site’s reliance on new water supplies, while integrated heat pumps will cut the energy needed to operate the facility.

 

The measures are expected to put the site on a path toward lower Scope 1 and 2 emissions and advance the company’s ambitions for more sustainable production.
