ELCRES HTV150 film delivers minimal voltage derating up to 150°C, enabling next-generation EV and power electronics
SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, will spotlight its latest innovations in specialty dielectric films at PCIM Asia 2025. The company will showcase its ultra-thin ELCRES HTV150 dielectric film, designed to push the limits of high-voltage, high-heat electrical applications such as AC-DC inverters for electric vehicles (EVs).
Capacitors built with ELCRES HTV150 film can withstand continuous operation at temperatures up to 150°C with only minimal derating of applied voltage. This advancement marks a significant leap over traditional biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films, which can lose up to 50 per cent of voltage rating at 125°C and above, forcing manufacturers to use thicker, less efficient materials.
Recent independent testing by Nichicon, a leading Japanese capacitor manufacturer, confirmed the superior performance of SABIC’s dielectric film, showing just 4.8 per cent voltage derating at 130°C and 14 per cent at 150°C.
“Higher voltages are becoming the new standard in electrification, but they also bring new engineering challenges,” said Sergi Monros, Vice President, SABIC Polymers, Specialties BU. “Our ELCRES HTV150 dielectric film empowers capacitor manufacturers to deliver compact, reliable, and efficient solutions under extreme operating conditions – enabling the next generation of electrified components.”
