The collaboration seeks to improve digestive health, nutritional outcomes, and overall quality of life for companion animals
Tata Chemicals Limited (TCL) and the Advanced Veterinary Care Foundation (AVCF), which operates the Small Animal Hospital, Mumbai (SAHM), have joined hands to advance research and innovation in pet nutrition and companion animal healthcare.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) brings together SAHM’s clinical expertise and compassionate approach to small animal care with Tata Chemicals’ strengths in scientific research, ingredient innovation, and product development.
The collaboration aims to address emerging challenges in pet nutrition and develop evidence-based solutions to support better health outcomes for companion animals.
As pet owners increasingly recognise the vital role of nutrition in animal health and longevity, TCL and SAHM will work together to identify gaps in pet nutrition and translate scientific insights into practical, validated solutions.
The partnership will combine Tata Chemicals’ expertise in ingredient science, prebiotic nutrition, and formulation development with SAHM’s experience in clinical care, diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions for small animals.
The collaboration seeks to improve digestive health, nutritional outcomes, and overall quality of life for companion animals while responding to the growing demand for scientifically backed nutrition solutions.
Both organisations have emphasised that the initiative will be guided by scientific excellence, ethical responsibility, and regulatory compliance. Any future testing or validation of solutions developed through the collaboration, if required, will be conducted independently through accredited veterinary institutions following applicable ethical and regulatory standards.
Pramod Batra, Head – Hospital Administration & Services, Small Animal Hospital, Mumbai, said: "At SAHM, we are committed to advancing the standards of care and well-being for companion animals through clinical excellence and compassion.
"We see this collaboration with Tata Chemicals as an opportunity to contribute our domain expertise towards a structured exchange of knowledge that can inform better nutritional understanding for pets. We look forward to a partnership rooted in science, ethics, and a shared goal of improving animal health outcomes."
Richard Lobo, Head – Innovation, R&D, Business Excellence and Chief Ethics Counselor, Tata Chemicals Limited, said: "Our purpose has always been rooted in the belief that science must serve a larger societal good.
"The collaboration with TATA Small Animal Hospital, Mumbai is an opportunity to extend this enduring philosophy to one of the most needed frontiers of care—the well-being of companion animals, especially those that are rescued and in need of focused attention and care.
"By bringing together SAHM's clinical excellence with our capabilities in nutrition science, research, and innovation, we aim to build a robust knowledge ecosystem that advances evidence-based solutions for
small animal health.
"Together, we seek to unlock new insights, shape the future of pet nutrition, and contribute to a world where scientific innovation is guided not only by discovery, but also by empathy, responsibility, and the desire to enhance the quality of life for all living beings."
