The initiative will focus on optimizing the use of seed, soil, water, fertilizers, and crop residue management

UPL Sustainable Agri Solutions and Indian Potash Limited have signed a three-year pact to drive sustainable sugarcane cultivation across nearly 2,000 acres in the catchment area of IPL's Kodinar Sugar Mill in Gujarat, with a target of increasing crop yields by 15 percent.

The partnership will combine regenerative agriculture, advanced agronomy, crop protection, balanced nutrition, digital technologies, and farmer capacity-building to improve productivity while enhancing profitability, resource efficiency, and climate resilience.

As part of the agreement, UPL SAS will deploy a dedicated Program Officer to oversee on-ground implementation and farmer engagement. The initiative will focus on optimizing the use of seed, soil, water, fertilizers, and crop residue management while promoting sustainable crop protection and nutrition practices tailored to local farming conditions.

A major focus of the programme will be the digital transformation of farmer services through the nurture farm platform. The platform will support farmer onboarding, geofencing, field monitoring, intervention tracking, and impact assessment.

Digital communication channels, including WhatsApp and YouTube, will also be used to accelerate knowledge sharing and encourage the adoption of improved farming practices.

The collaboration is expected to strengthen sugarcane availability for IPL's Kodinar Sugar Mill, improve crushing capacity utilization and operational efficiency, raise farmer incomes through Good Agronomic Practices and regenerative agriculture, reduce water, fertilizer and energy consumption, lower greenhouse gas emissions across the sugarcane value chain, and advance the sustainability and climate commitments of both organizations.

Speaking on the occasion, US Teotia, Chief Agricultural Scientist, Indian Potash Limited, Said: "Indian Potash Limited is committed to supporting farmers through innovative and sustainable agricultural solutions. This partnership with UPL will help strengthen our farmer engagement efforts, improve cane productivity, and contribute to the long-term growth and competitiveness of our Kodinar Sugar operations.

"The integration of scientific agronomy, digital monitoring, and regenerative farming practices can significantly enhance sugarcane productivity while conserving natural resources. We look forward to creating a model that can be replicated across other sugarcane-growing regions."

Harshal Sonawane, Head – Sustainability, UPL Sustainable Agri Solutions, added: "This collaboration reflects UPL's commitment to building sustainable and resilient agricultural value chains. By combining science-based agronomy, digital tools, regenerative agriculture, and farmer-centric solutions, we aim to create measurable improvements in productivity, profitability, and environmental outcomes for sugarcane farmers."

The programme will include extensive farmer outreach through one-on-one advisory services, group meetings, training sessions, demonstration plots, field days, and harvest events. Both organizations will work together to promote the adoption of recommended Packages of Practices (PoP), track progress, and measure outcomes throughout the project.

The partnership marks a significant step towards building a more productive, profitable, and sustainable sugarcane ecosystem while supporting India's broader agricultural sustainability and climate goals.
