A step towards a greener future
T.K. Ramachandran, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, launched V. O. Chidambaranar Port Authority's in-house developed Capacity Building videos and the compendium on sustainability, at a special event held in New Delhi on 07.08.2025. The launch event was graced by Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, VOC Port, R. Lakshmanan, IAS, Joint Secretary (Ports, PPP, CS, Sagarmala-I, & IT), and Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS, Deputy Chairperson, VOC Port, along with senior officials from the Ministry and the Port.
The newly released video module includes 11 short educational videos covering topics such as carbon neutrality, circular economy, energy conservation, green hydrogen, offshore wind energy, plastic pollution mitigation, solar energy, building a sustainable future, waste management and segregation, water conservation, and harnessing wind energy. Each video is designed to educate, engage, and empower stakeholders by highlighting actionable green practices and the Port’s ongoing sustainability efforts.
These videos will be circulated across social media handles of the Port including the official YouTube channel of VOC Port - “vocport_tuticorin”, ensuring wider accessibility and outreach. These videos will serve as a valuable resource during training sessions, workshops, and stakeholder meetings in the port. Plans are also underway to integrate the video series on VOC Port’s e-learning and induction modules.
Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, stated that in his message VOC Port has been proactively embracing innovative sustainability initiatives, from tree plantation drives to green hydrogen demonstrations, reflecting its strong commitment to a greener future. He also mentioned that the video series is a significant step in this journey, aimed at raising awareness and reinforcing the Port’s mission to achieve carbon neutrality.
