WABAG will upgrade the facility to restore its full 45 MLD capacity within 18 months and then operate and maintain it for 18.5 years

VA TECH WABAG, a leading Indian multinational in water technology, has secured a major water project in Chennai to revamp and upkeep a Tertiary Treatment Reverse Osmosis (TTRO) plant.

The Letter of Award has come from the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to refurbish, finance, operate, maintain, and transfer a 45 Million Litres per Day (MLD) TTRO plant at Kodungaiyur under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

Originally developed by CMWSSB in 2019, the Kodungaiyur TTRO plant supplies high-quality treated wastewater to industries in Chennai’s Manali-Ennore and Manali-Minjur industrial corridors. Under the new contract, WABAG will upgrade the facility to restore its full 45 MLD capacity within 18 months and then operate and maintain it for 18.5 years, ensuring a steady supply of treated water that meets strict quantity and quality standards.

WABAG is no stranger to Chennai’s water landscape. The company already operates a 45 MLD TTRO facility at Koyambedu, commissioned in 2019, and a 40 MLD TTRO plant in Ghaziabad under PPP, supplying recycled water to industrial zones. The Kodungaiyur project reinforces WABAG’s leadership in advanced water recycling and circular water management.

Commenting on the win, S Varadarajan, Whole Time Director & Chief Growth Officer, said, "We are delighted to secure this prestigious Recycle & Reuse project from our valued client, CMWSSB. We thank them for their continued trust and confidence in our technological expertise and execution capabilities.

"This project further strengthens our leadership in the Indian water sector and reinforces our position at the forefront of water recycling and reuse, which will play a critical role in enabling sustainable industrial water management and supporting Chennai's long-term water security."
