Plug Power, a global leader in hydrogen solutions, has landed a landmark 55 MW equipment supply and long-term service agreement (LTSA) for three green hydrogen projects in the UK, developed by Carlton Power. The contract, pending final investment decisions (FID), marks the largest combined electrolyzer deal in the country to date.

The projects include 30 MW for the Barrow-in-Furness Hydrogen project in Cumbria, 15 MW for the Trafford Green Hydrogen project in Greater Manchester, and 10 MW for the Langage Green Hydrogen project in Plymouth.

Barrow-in-Furness, developed in partnership with Schroders Greencoat, will deploy six 5 MW Plug Power GenEco Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers powered by renewable electricity. Under a secured offtake agreement with Kimberly-Clark, the facility will supply green hydrogen to the company’s nearby manufacturing site, driving significant carbon reductions.

The Trafford Green Hydrogen project, part of Greater Manchester’s Low Carbon Energy Park, will use 15 MW of GenEco PEM electrolyzers to produce hydrogen for industrial users, heavy transport operators, and municipal fleets. The facility is expected to begin operations in 2027 and plays a key role in the region’s net-zero strategy.

Langage Green Hydrogen, featuring two 5 MW GenEco electrolyzers, will focus on decarbonizing industrial operations, with potential expansion to supply hydrogen for transport and heating networks. All three projects are supported by the UK Government’s Hydrogen Business Model (HAR1). FID is expected by the end of 2025 for Barrow-in-Furness and Trafford and by Q1 2026 for Langage.

“These projects underscore Plug Power’s leadership in Europe and our ability to deliver scalable, reliable electrolyzers for industrial decarbonization,” said Jose Luis Crespo, Plug Power President and Chief Revenue Officer.

Eric Adams, Hydrogen Director at Carlton Power, added, “Partnering with Plug Power combines proven technology with long-term operational expertise. These projects set new standards for scale, performance, and sustainability in green hydrogen production.”
