Sinopec wins engineering contract for Saudi Arabian green hydrogen/ammonia project

The facility will be built in Yanbu city and is expected to produce 400,000 metric tons of green hydrogen and 2.8 million tons of green ammonia annually


China’s Sinopec has secured an engineering contract for Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power to develop the world’s largest integrated green hydrogen and green ammonia project. 

The facility will be built in Yanbu city and is expected to produce 400,000 metric tons of green hydrogen and 2.8 million tons of green ammonia annually using renewable wind and solar energy. 

Sinopec did not disclose financial details but confirmed that commercial operations are scheduled to start in 2030. Sinopec Engineering Group, a subsidiary of Sinopec, will handle the front-end engineering design as well as convertible engineering, procurement, and construction for the project.
