The partnership will explore new synergies in green hydrogen and ammonia production
SONATRACH and VNG AG have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore joint opportunities in green hydrogen, ammonia development, and methane emissions reduction, in a further step in their push toward lower-carbon energy cooperation.
The agreement was signed at SONATRACH’s headquarters in the presence of senior leadership from both companies, including SONATRACH Chairman & CEO Nour Eddine DAOUDI, VNG AG Executive Board Chairman Ulf HEITMÜLLER, and board member Hans-Joachim POLK.
The MoU builds on discussions initiated under a previous framework agreement signed on December 20, 2022, and aims to translate dialogue into concrete projects focused on decarbonization across the hydrocarbons value chain.
At its core, the partnership will explore new synergies in green hydrogen and ammonia production while also advancing coordinated efforts to reduce methane emissions—one of the sector’s most pressing climate challenges.
Both sides framed the MoU as a signal of mutual trust and a shared commitment to tackling the energy transition, with SONATRACH positioning the initiative as part of its broader drive toward cleaner energy systems and climate-aligned operations.
