The International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) marks the start of Markus Kamieth’s term as ICCA President, effective 1 January 2026
Markus Kamieth, CEO of BASF SE, has assumed the Presidency of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) from January 1, 2026. In this role, he leads global industry efforts on sustainability and chemical management, fostering crucial international dialogue. He also serves as President of the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic).
Commenting on the start of his term, Kamieth said: “I am honored to serve as President of ICCA. Our industry is, by nature, global – from raw materials and production networks to our customers and innovation partners around the world. Even in a challenging geopolitical environment, international collaboration remains crucial to enable safe, sustainable and competitive chemical value chains. Through ICCA, we can contribute constructively to global frameworks, promote responsible practices, and support solutions that work across regions.”
Under its new leadership, ICCA is set to deepen its involvement in essential global policy processes. From advancing the Global Framework on Chemicals to shaping the upcoming Global Plastics Treaty through the INC5 negotiations, the council is positioning the industry at the center of international sustainability efforts. Central to this mission is the ongoing expansion of Responsible Care, ensuring that health, security, and environmental excellence remain top priorities for the global chemical sector.
ICCA represents chemical industry associations from around the world, supporting a sector that underpins global value chains and international trade. Through its platform, ICCA promotes responsible production, innovation, and cooperation on issues of shared global importance.
