Her presidency is widely seen as one of the most influential in recent years, reshaping how policymakers view industrial needs across Europe

Cefic has hailed Ilham Kadri as one of its most consequential presidents as she concludes her tenure as President of Cefic and Chair of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA), closing a chapter that helped redefine Europe’s industrial policy debate.

Under Kadri’s leadership, Cefic says the chemical industry strengthened its position as a strategic pillar of the European economy, with competitiveness pushed back to the centre of EU political decision-making. Her presidency is widely seen as one of the most influential in recent years, reshaping how policymakers view industrial needs across Europe.

Marco Mensink, Director General of Cefic, said: "Ilham’s leadership has been transformative. She united the chemical industry, raised our voice as the mother of all industries, and marked our identification as a strategic sector for Europe. She helped re-anchor competitiveness at the core of Europe’s political debate, being a respected voice at the highest levels of the EU institutions. We are grateful for her vision, her drive, and her unwavering commitment to Europe’s industrial future."

Looking ahead, Cefic’s Board has appointed Markus Kamieth, CEO of BASF, as a member of the Board and the next President of Cefic, effective 1 January 2026. From the same date, Kamieth will also take on the role of Chair of the ICCA, steering the global chemical industry at a time of mounting economic and regulatory pressure.

Cefic congratulated Kamieth on his appointment, framing his presidency as the start of a new chapter for the sector.

Mensink added: "We are very proud and grateful to have such a distinguished industry leader stepping forward to lead the industry as President of Cefic. We very much look forward to working closely with Markus Kamieth, his team and the Cefic Board, during one of the most challenging times our European chemical industry has ever faced."

While stepping down from the presidency, Kadri will remain closely involved. Cefic has asked her to continue supporting the federation by organising and moderating the next Antwerp Industry Summit, scheduled for February 2026, ensuring continuity as the industry navigates its next phase.
