Kumar brings deep experience spanning the full energy value chain—from upstream operations and engineering to business development, petrochemicals, renewable energy, and corporate strategy
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation has appointed veteran energy executive Satyan Kumar as Director (Strategy & Corporate Affairs), effective 29 May 2026, marking a key leadership transition in its corporate strategy function.
A 36-year veteran of the oil and gas sector, Kumar brings deep experience spanning the full energy value chain—from upstream operations and engineering to business development, petrochemicals, renewable energy, and corporate strategy. His appointment comes as ONGC intensifies its push toward diversification and a more integrated, future-ready energy portfolio.
In his new role, Kumar will oversee critical growth-facing functions, including corporate strategy, business development, diversification initiatives, joint ventures, stakeholder engagement, and ONGC’s expanding renewable and sustainable energy agenda.
An Electrical Engineering graduate from Dayalbagh Educational Institution, Agra, Kumar also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from MDI Gurgaon. He has undergone advanced leadership training at ESCP-EAP, France, and participated in DAKSH, the Government of India’s leadership development programme for CPSE executives.
Prior to this elevation, he served as Executive Director – Chief Corporate Strategy, where he played a central role in shaping ONGC’s long-term roadmap. His work included driving diversification into petrochemicals, LNG, and green energy, along with supporting venture investments in emerging startups.
Over his long tenure at ONGC, Kumar has held multiple leadership positions across engineering services, operations, marketing, business development, and strategy. He has led several major infrastructure and energy projects, including captive power plants at Uran, OPaL and Hazira, the 103-km Hazira–Dahej naphtha pipeline, and the company’s first 15 MW utility-scale solar project.
He has also been closely involved in ONGC’s renewable energy expansion. Currently, he serves as Non-Executive Chairman of ONGC Tripura Power Company and sits on the boards of ONGC NTPC Green Private Limited, OGL One Limited, and Ayana Renewable Power Private Limited.
Known for his execution discipline, capital efficiency focus, and deep upstream expertise, Kumar is expected to play a central role in aligning ONGC’s traditional strengths with its growing clean energy ambitions.
His appointment comes at a time when ONGC is balancing expansion of its core exploration and production business with strategic entry into sustainable energy markets, positioning the company for long-term value creation and energy transition leadership.
