The pp plant in Atyrau region will be able to produce up to 500 thousand tons of polypropylene per year

Recently, Chairman of the Board of NC KazMunayGas JSC, Alik Aidarbayev, during his working visit to the Atyrau region, inspected the construction of a polypropylene plant by Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. LLP.

During his tour of the construction site of the first phase of the Integrated Gas Chemical Complex, the head of KMG visited the propane railroad loading rack, propane storage park, main electrical substation, propane dehydrogenation and propylene polymerization units, as well as finished product storage and shipment facilities.

As Damir Ashimov, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of KPI Inc. LLP, noted in his report, to date the progress of construction of the plant is about 90%. General construction works are coming to an end, installation and testing of the inter-workshop utilities are completed, about 28 thousand tons of steel structures and 435 thousand inches of technological pipelines have been installed, concrete works have been fully completed. Delivery of long lead items and main equipment is completed. Auxiliary equipment is arriving from around the world - a total of 8,836 units.

In addition, as part of the preparation of engineering infrastructure facilities, the construction of the main substation was completed, and electricity was received from the gas turbine power plant of Karabatan Utility Solutions LLP. Hydrotesting of reservoirs is completed at the recycling water supply unit, and the installation of a pumping station and cooling tower is well under way.

A total of 3,500 people and about 100 units of equipment are involved in the project. After commissioning, 586 new jobs will be created at the plant.

During the visit to the facility were also discussed issues of commissioning and training of plant personnel. The head of KMG stressed the importance of further adherence to the schedule of construction works.

"Today it is a unique project that has no analogues in our country, wh ere advanced technologies and equipment will be used. The capacity of the plant and future products will be able to meet not only the Kazakhstan's demand for polypropylene, but will also go for export. In general, the future products of the plant will contribute to the development of related industries, such as the production of construction materials, automotive industry and increase local content" said A. Aidarbayev.

We should note that the plant will be able to produce up to 500 thousand tons of polypropylene per year. The initial stage of production is planned to produce 11 grades of polypropylene, in future the range will be expanded to 65 grades.

The general EPC contractor (engineering, procurement and construction) is China National Chemical Enginnering Co. Raw materials for production will be supplied from the Tengiz field.
