Fluor Corporation has secured a key engineering contract from Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) to design a major new aromatics facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, strengthening the country’s industrial growth ambitions.

 

Under the agreement, Fluor will deliver front-end engineering and design (FEED) services for the project, which will expand GPIC’s existing petrochemical complex currently producing ammonia, urea and methanol.

 

The planned facility will use commercially proven technologies to produce approximately 1.2 million metric tons of paraxylene and 0.5 million metric tons of benzene each year. These essential chemical building blocks are widely used in the production of plastics, polyester fibers and packaging materials, helping meet rising global demand across consumer and industrial markets.
