Evonik has partnered with global antibody expression specialist evitria to launch a ready-to-use transient protein expression kit based on CHO cells, aimed at accelerating protein production for biopharmaceutical research and development.

The collaboration brings together Evonik's biopharma expertise and evitria's capabilities in CHO-based transient expression to address persistent challenges in early-stage biologics development.

The new eviCHO Expression Kit is designed to deliver faster, more reliable and scalable protein production while simplifying laboratory workflows through ready-to-use components and commercially proven protocols.

Through the partnership, Evonik is expanding customer access to evitria's protein expression technology while strengthening its own portfolio of precision biosolutions for the biopharmaceutical industry.

"By combining evitria’s proven capabilities with our extensive biopharma experience, we are connecting our customers with best-in-class protein expression solutions. Our goal is to simplify processes, enable faster biologics development, and therefore further strengthen our position in the biopharma value chain,” said Guido Skudlarek, head of the Health Care business line at Evonik.

CHO (Chinese Hamster Ovary) cells are the industry standard for producing therapeutic proteins, including antibodies. While transient protein expression enables researchers to generate proteins rapidly without creating stable cell lines, the process can be complex and time-consuming during early-stage research.

The eviCHO Expression Kit, based on CHO-K1 cells, is designed to overcome these hurdles by reducing troubleshooting, improving consistency and accelerating the development of new biologics.

Zurich-based evitria specializes in CHO-based transient antibody expression and has performed more than 125,000 transfections, successfully expressing and purifying over 25,000 antibodies and antibody-based molecules.

The company serves customers across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia, including academic institutions, emerging biotechnology firms and leading biopharmaceutical companies.

“The eviCHO Expression Kit is a natural extension of our expertise in CHO-based transient expression,” said Stefan Schmidt CSO of evitria and the Atlas Antibodies group. “Together with Evonik, we are making it easier for customers to achieve consistent, high-quality results in their own lab."
