UPL University of Sustainable Technology inaugurates R&D Centre and CoE for Process Safety

The establishment of Research & Development (R&D) Centre and Centre of Excellence for process safety marks a significant milestone towards becoming a leading institution for innovation, sustainability, and industry engagement


UPL University of Sustainable Technology has strengthened its commitment to research, innovation, and industrial excellence with the inauguration of its Research & Development (R&D) Centre and Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Process Safety.

The facilities were inaugurated by Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, former Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) in the presence of Ashok Panjwani, President, UPL University of Sustainable Technology, and Prof. (Dr.) Shrikant J. Wagh, Provost, UPL University of Sustainable Technology. The event was attended by faculty members, students, researchers, and distinguished representatives from chemicals and petrochemicals industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai emphasized the importance of research-led education and innovation-driven development in addressing contemporary industrial and societal challenges. He encouraged students and researchers to pursue impactful research that contributes to sustainable development and national progress.

The newly established R&D Centre is envisioned as a hub for interdisciplinary research, product development, technology incubation, and industry-sponsored projects. The Centre will facilitate collaborative research initiatives and provide a platform for translating scientific knowledge into practical industrial solutions.

Speaking during inauguration, Ashok Panjwani, President, UPL University of Sustainable Technology highlighted the University's strong commitment to research and innovation. He noted that the R&D Centre would play a crucial role in supporting students pursuing Master's and doctoral studies while also providing valuable opportunities for faculty members to undertake advanced research. 

Highlighting the importance of industrial safety, he said the University has been actively working in this area for the past few years and expressed confidence that the new centres would further strengthen industry-academia relations. 

He added that the initiative aligns with the Government of India's vision of Viksit Bharat by fostering innovation, research excellence, and safer industrial development.
