Saipem has been selected by Canadian technology company Aduro Clean Technologies to provide preliminary engineering and procurement services for its first industrial-scale plastic recycling facility.

This marks a key step toward commercializing Aduro’s proprietary Hydrochemolytic technology.

The planned plant will be built at Chemelot Industrial Park in the Netherlands, one of Europe’s major integrated chemical hubs, in Sittard-Geleen near the Belgian and German borders.

The facility is designed to process complex plastic waste and convert it into feedstocks that can be reintroduced into chemical and petrochemical production. The initial planned capacity is 10,000 tonnes per year.

Under the agreement, Saipem will support preliminary engineering and procurement while helping optimize the project’s technical and economic performance. The Italian engineering and energy services group will also contribute to the industrialization and scale-up of Aduro’s technology.

The preliminary phase is a critical milestone for the project and could lead to subsequent engineering, construction and commissioning work.

The collaboration strengthens Saipem’s position in the industrialization of emerging technologies aimed at advancing the circular economy and expanding the recycling of hard-to-process plastic waste.

For Aduro, the partnership represents a step toward translating its Hydrochemolytic technology from an innovative process into a full-scale industrial operation, potentially enabling greater volumes of plastic waste to be converted into valuable raw materials for existing chemical production chains.
