Collaboration will also explore local manufacture of Sumitomo’s high-purity chemicals and semiconductor materials
Tata Electronics and Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance India's semiconductor supply chain. The partnership aims to diversify the local supply chain and guarantee access to high-quality manufacturing materials, supporting India’s goal to become a global leader in semiconductor fabrication.
Under the new agreement, Sumitomo Chemical will supply essential semiconductor materials—including photoresists, functional chemicals, and high-purity chemicals like sulfuric acid and isopropyl alcohol—to Tata Electronics' upcoming Dholera Fab in Gujarat. Concurrently, Tata Electronics will help Sumitomo explore local manufacturing opportunities for these materials within India.

Tata Electronics is building India’s first commercial 12-inch (300 mm) semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat, with a planned investment of US$11 billion. The facility will manufacture chips for a wide range of applications, including automotive, mobile devices, and Artificial Intelligence, serving customers worldwide.
Tata Electronics has developed strategic partnerships with leading global customers as well as ecosystem companies. The company’s alliance with Taiwan’s PSMC, has been crucial to securing access for Tata Electronics to a broad portfolio of semiconductor technologies spanning 28nm to 110nm nodes.
The construction of the Fab is progressing rapidly, and the partnership with Sumitomo Chemical marks an important step in strengthening the domestic ecosystem across materials, equipment, and process and design technologies, supporting the development of a strong, holistic, and resilient semiconductor manufacturing base in India.
