Braskem, a global leader in large-scale biopolymer production, recently welcomed the arrival of its new vessel, Brave Future. Valued at approximately R$ 500 million, the ship will operate on the route connecting the United States, Mexico, and Brazil. The launch of this vessel marks a significant step in Braskem’s strategy to enhance logistics autonomy, reduce maritime transportation costs, and boost its global competitiveness. The christening ceremony took place in China at the YAMIC shipyard, where the vessel was constructed.
The ethane carrier measures 188 meters in length and has a capacity of 36,000 m³, capable of transporting cargo at temperatures as low as -104°C. Financed by Ocean Yield and operated by Hartmann Reederei, the vessel features a dual-fuel engine that runs on both bunker oil and ethane. It offers high fuel efficiency and a propulsion system that reduces CO₂ emissions by approximately 40% compared to the average fleet in operation.
“The Brave Future is a strategic asset that enhances our logistics autonomy, offering greater operational predictability and reinforcing our position as a global leader in the petrochemical industry,” emphasizes Hardi Schuck, Director of Braskem Trading & Shipping (BT&S). Prior to the christening, the vessel completed sea trials—a comprehensive testing phase at sea that assesses safety, speed, maneuverability, and equipment performance before commencing commercial operations.
With the addition of the Brave Future, Braskem now operates two dedicated ethane carriers—the Brave Future and the Brilliant Future. By 2026, BT&S anticipates the delivery of four more vessels to further support Braskem’s operations.
