Odfjell is set to strengthen its global chemical shipping operations with six new buildings, boosting its total fleet to twelve 25,000–40,000 dwt stainless steel vessels under long-term time charter and pool agreements through 2027.

The vessels, built at multiple Japanese shipyards, will be delivered between the first half of 2026 and 2027. Two are 40,000 dwt super segregator chemical tankers with 28 tanks, while four are 25–26,000 dwt stainless steel tankers with 24 tanks. All are designed to handle a wide range of specialty liquid products.

"These agreements reinforce our growth ambitions and strengthen our fleet composition,” said CEO Harald Fotland. “The collaboration between shipbuilders, suppliers, and our team has produced vessels that are sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective.”

Odfjell’s new tonnage will operate on a mix of long-term time charters and pool arrangements, offering flexibility and capital efficiency. Purchase options are included in the agreements, securing future expansion potential.

The move is part of Odfjell’s broader fleet renewal strategy, which has already made it the most energy-efficient operator in the deep-sea chemical tanker segment. The company’s design input ensures these new vessels are future-ready, supporting its ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Odfjell has already achieved a 50% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030 and continues to test innovations aimed at further emissions reductions.
