More clinker vessels are expected to arrive in the near future
VOC Port has accepted its first clinker cargo in adherence to the Minimum Guaranteed Tonnage-based Incentive Scheme for coastal clinkers, following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Ambuja Cement Limited, Gujarat, on November 19, 2025.
The agreement guarantees the annual coastal transportation of 250,000 metric tonnes of clinker. Fulfilling this commitment, the vessel MV Lima Trader docked at NCB-II on November 24, 2025, delivering 56,440 metric tonnes of coastal clinker from Sanghi Port, Gujarat. Seaport Shipping acted as the ship agent, with Seaport Logistics managing the stevedoring operations. The cargo will be moved via road to Ambuja’s grinding unit in Mela Arasadi, Tuticorin—approximately 24 km away—for cement production.
Susanta Kumar Purohit, Chairperson of VOC Port, remarked that this significant shipment represents a key move toward sustainable and economical coastal transportation, supporting the Government of India's goal to boost coastal shipping. He also indicated that more clinker vessels are expected to arrive in the near future under this MoU, which will enhance cargo volumes and solidify the collaboration between the port and industry partners.
