BASF’s Performance Materials division has reached a new milestone in its sustainability journey with the certification of all ten of its European production sites under the REDcert scheme. This certification underscores BASF’s commitment to advancing circularity and reducing the use of fossil feedstocks in the chemical industry.

The achievement follows the transition of BASF Performance Materials’ European sites to renewable electricity earlier this year. With the recent certification of its polyurethane production site in Malacky, Slovakia, the division now offers customers certified mass balance solutions across its entire network of plants in Europe.

“At BASF, we do not only talk about ideas; we deliver proof points,” said Alexander Weiser, Head of BASF Performance Materials Europe. “This certification marks another milestone on #OurPlasticsJourney, showcasing our dedication to sustainability and circularity in plastics. With it, we are fully prepared to meet our customers’ needs for sustainable solutions today and in the future.”

BASF Performance Materials’ portfolio continues to evolve toward lower carbon footprints and greater sustainability.

REDcert provides certification for sustainable material flows in the chemical industry. BASF leverages this scheme to validate reductions in fossil feedstock use, whether through its Biomass Balance approach—which incorporates renewable raw materials—or via ChemCycling, which utilizes recycled feedstocks.
