Deepak Nitrite has marked World Environment Day with a large-scale coastal restoration push, planting mangroves and expanding green initiatives across multiple states in India.

In Dahej, Gujarat, the group led a 50-acre mangrove afforestation drive along the Paniyadra coastline near Bharuch, bringing together employees, project teams, and local coastal communities. Volunteers planted Avicennia marina, a salt-tolerant mangrove species known for strengthening natural coastal defenses and reducing erosion.

The initiative was framed around this year’s theme: "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future". Company teams described the project as a long-term, community-anchored effort combining local knowledge, ecological monitoring, and sustained restoration work rather than a one-off plantation event.

Mangroves—often described as among the planet’s most productive ecosystems—were central to the company’s messaging. The drive emphasized their role in carbon absorption, shoreline protection, and as nurseries for marine biodiversity, with the group stressing that their loss is effectively irreversible on human timescales.

Beyond the Gujarat coastline, the company expanded plantation activities across its manufacturing footprint in Nandesari, Dahej, Savli, Roha, Taloja, and Hyderabad. Employees planted native tree species across green belts and industrial zones as part of a broader greening programme.

To reinforce participation, the company also ran awareness sessions under its internal “Going Green” campaign, aimed at building what it called “Eco Soldiers”. Employees engaged in interactive discussions with experts and received “Green champion” certificates of appreciation.

Across its facilities, more than 1,500 saplings were planted, accompanied by an employee pledge for a cleaner and more sustainable future. The company positioned the initiative within its broader sustainability framework of “Responsible Chemistry” and its stated commitment to the “Triple Bottomline principle of People, Planet & Profit”.

The group said the effort reflects its long-term environmental approach across operations, supply chains, and community engagement.
