BASF’s Durasorb technology rolls out across Cheniere’s Corpus Christi LNG facility

BASF’s Durasorb LNG MAX technology is now operating across multiple liquefaction trains at Cheniere Energy’s Corpus Christi LNG facility in Texas, marking a major scale-up of the technology and supporting Cheniere’s push to unlock additional production from its existing LNG platform.
Installation of Durasorb at the Corpus Christi LNG (CCL) Facility began in 2025 and has now been completed on multiple mid-scale and large-scale liquefaction trains. Cheniere plans to extend the technology across the facility’s remaining liquefaction trains, with installation and commissioning targeted for completion by the end of 2027.
BASF provided the Durasorb technology, specialty adsorbent materials and technical support throughout preparation, implementation and startup. The deployment follows earlier small-scale applications and represents a significant demonstration of the technology at commercial scale.
Durasorb LNG MAX is designed to simplify LNG feed-gas pretreatment by combining the removal of trace heavy hydrocarbons (HHCs), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (BTEX) and water in a single adsorption unit.
By removing these contaminants to cryogenic specifications, the technology is designed to prevent component freeze-out, reduce associated downtime and improve operational reliability. It can also be used to retrofit existing dehydration units or incorporated into greenfield LNG projects.
BASF says the technology can give operators greater feed-gas flexibility while simplifying pretreatment operations. The company supports customers with proprietary modelling tools, process design and ongoing technical assistance.

The deployment also strengthens BASF’s position in LNG pretreatment technology, with the company highlighting the Corpus Christi project as proof that Durasorb can deliver its intended performance at large scale.

With additional trains at Corpus Christi scheduled for Durasorb installation and commissioning through 2027, BASF and Cheniere are positioning the technology for broader deployment across the LNG facility.
