Casale said the design is intended to reduce the amount and complexity of work required at the Norwegian site
Casale will engineer and supply a 100-metric-tonnes-per-day modular green ammonia plant for Neptun Glomfjord Green Ammonia AS (NGGA) in Glomfjord, Norway, in a project aimed at advancing small-scale renewable ammonia production.
The contract marks a further expansion of Casale’s green ammonia technology portfolio and will see the Swiss engineering company deploy its proprietary SMART-N technology at Glomfjord Industrial Park.
NGGA is developing the project to tap the region’s renewable power resources and existing industrial infrastructure while meeting local demand for ammonia.
The plant will be delivered under an EPF (Engineering, Procurement & Fabrication) model and manufactured as a modularized facility. Casale said the design is intended to reduce the amount and complexity of work required at the Norwegian site by shifting a significant portion of fabrication off-site.
A central feature of the plant will be its ability to operate between 10% and 100% of nominal capacity, allowing production to respond to changing renewable energy and hydrogen conditions.
Following a staged strategy for hydrogen production implementation, the synthesis section shall operate at approximately 50% load for a period after start-up.
Casale said the flexibility is particularly important for renewable ammonia production, where operating conditions can be affected by fluctuations in renewable energy prices and the availability of renewable hydrogen.
SMART-N was developed specifically for small-scale ammonia production and is designed for applications using renewable hydrogen. Its compact configuration and broad operating range are intended to support flexible ammonia production while keeping the levelized cost of ammonia (LCOA) affordable.
The Glomfjord project is also designed to extend beyond ammonia production. The green ammonia will subsequently be processed by third parties into nitric acid, ANS and fertilizers, linking the project to a broader lower-carbon nitrogen value chain.
Casale said the agreement strengthens its position in the renewable ammonia market and demonstrates how modular plant design, advanced ammonia technology and operational flexibility can be combined for emerging green ammonia projects.
The company said its SMART-N technology forms part of a broader portfolio designed to support different project scales and configurations as the nitrogen industry moves toward more sustainable production.
