Swiss-based green-tech major Kanadevia Inova is expanding its engineering footprint in India with the acquisition of Chennai-based Petrokens Engineering & Services, a move aimed at strengthening its global engineering and sourcing capabilities and improving the competitiveness of its Waste-to-X solutions.

The acquisition brings more than 80 employees and specialised engineering expertise into Kanadevia Inova's operations, giving the company a stronger base to support projects across India and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Petrokens provides detailed engineering services to several industrial sectors, including energy, chemicals and industrial infrastructure. Its capabilities are expected to complement Kanadevia Inova's existing European supply-chain operations and strengthen its international engineering and sourcing platform.

The acquisition comes as demand for sustainable waste management, resource recovery and circular economy infrastructure gathers pace globally, with affordability emerging as a critical factor in the development of new projects.

Kanadevia Inova CEO Bruno-Frédéric Baudouin said: “Advanced waste infrastructure only delivers its full potential when it is accessible and affordable. This acquisition strengthens the capabilities that help us bring sustainable waste and resource recovery solutions to more communities. In doing so, we can contribute to the development of more circular and resilient cities while continuing to grow our business for the long term.”

He added: “Most importantly, we are excited to welcome our new colleagues in Chennai. Their expertise and experience will help strengthen our business, and we look forward to working together to deliver sustainable solutions for customers and communities around the world.”

Petrokens' existing management team is expected to remain in place following completion of the transaction, playing a key role in integrating the business and driving its future development.

India emerges as a strategic engineering hub

The acquisition signals Kanadevia Inova's intent to expand its engineering and sourcing capabilities through strategic investments rather than developing all the required expertise internally or depending on third-party know-how.

By bringing Petrokens' established engineering capabilities into its operations, the company aims to improve project competitiveness, strengthen its supply chain and accelerate the delivery of sustainable infrastructure solutions across multiple markets.

For the global Waste-to-X sector, where project costs and affordability can determine the viability of new infrastructure, the expanded engineering and sourcing network could help Kanadevia Inova pursue opportunities across a wider range of markets and communities.

The company said the acquisition supports its long-term growth strategy, positioning it to respond to rising demand for waste treatment, resource recovery and circular city infrastructure while strengthening its competitive position globally.
