MAAG Group has claimed top honours at the 30th Fakuma trade fair, winning first place in the Extrusion category at the event’s inaugural Innovation Award with its new extrex⁶ EC PVC pump.

 

Billed as the world’s first gear pump specifically engineered for the continuous conveyance of rigid PVC, the breakthrough technology is designed to improve efficiency, reduce thermal stress and deliver greater process reliability in PVC extrusion.

 

The award marks a major milestone for MAAG, as the plastics processing industry looks for ways to boost productivity, cut energy consumption and improve material quality.

 

The extrex⁶ EC introduces a gap-free design that eliminates dead zones where material can accumulate and remain for extended periods. By preventing prolonged residence times, the design helps avoid thermal decomposition and supports a cleaner, more stable production process.

 

The technology also promises significant gains in efficiency. Its uniform, pressure-stable conveying reduces the load on the extruder, potentially increasing throughput or delivering energy savings of up to 50%, depending on the application.

 

Temperature control is another key advantage. The pump can reduce processing temperatures by up to 10 °C, lowering thermal stress on the material. In some cases, this could eliminate the need for expensive stabilisers, offering manufacturers an additional cost advantage.
