MAIRE has announced that Tecnimont, through its subsidiary Tecnimont Services, has secured a USD 50 million contract to conduct a major rehabilitation study of the Guaracara Refinery Complex in Point a Pierre, Trinidad and Tobago.

The project will deliver a full technical and integrity assessment of the refinery’s units and equipment, along with Phase 1 and 2 rehabilitation studies for the 150,000 barrels-per-day facility. Tecnimont Services will identify areas needing upgrades or refurbishment, assess existing technologies, and evaluate energy efficiency and environmental performance.

The study will also include the engineering of advanced water intake and cooling systems, all built to stringent international standards.

Based on these findings, Tecnimont Services will provide preliminary CAPEX and OPEX estimates to support the refinery’s refurbishment and restart. Phases 1 and 2 are expected to conclude by early 2027, after which the project may extend into FEED, EPC, and full Operations & Maintenance for the complex.

Tecnimont was selected for its proven expertise in complex upgrading projects, leveraging Tecnimont Services’ core strengths in Operation & Maintenance, plant enhancement, green power, and digital energy services.

Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE, said: “This project further strengthens our geographic diversification expanding our presence in Central America, and confirms the strategic relevance of upgrading initiatives. By leveraging our engineering expertise and technological know-how, we support the transformation of existing assets into more efficient and environmentally advanced facilities.

"The upgrading of the Guaracara Refinery Complex is expected to generate tangible benefits for the local economy, contributing to value creation, industrial development and skill enhancement.”
