The carbon capture unit will be integrated into Ren-Gas’ planned e-methane production facility in Tampere
Saipem has secured a contract from Ren-Gas to engineer, procure and fabricate a full-scale carbon capture unit for the Tampere Power-to-Gas project in Finland, marking a major step in the deployment of its Bluenzyme 200 technology.
The contract covers Saipem’s proprietary CO2 Solutions technology and its industrialized Bluenzyme™ 200 solution, which will be used in the project’s post-combustion carbon capture unit.
Under the agreement, Saipem will handle engineering, procurement and fabrication, while also providing advisory support during installation, commissioning, start-up and performance testing.
The carbon capture unit will be integrated into Ren-Gas’ planned e-methane production facility in Tampere. The facility is expected to produce around 200 GWh of renewable synthetic fuel, or e-methane, annually.
The renewable fuel is planned for distribution through existing gas infrastructure to serve heavy-duty road transport in Germany.
The contract will take effect following Ren-Gas’ final investment decision (FID) on the Tampere e-methane project.
The award builds on Ren-Gas’ selection of Saipem’s proprietary Bluenzyme technology in December 2024 for the project’s post-combustion carbon capture unit.
Saipem said the latest contract represents an important milestone for the technology and reinforces its focus on industrial decarbonization and energy-transition solutions.
The Tampere project also strengthens the integration of carbon capture with Power-to-X technologies, supporting the development of a lower-carbon energy ecosystem across Northern Europe.
