Siemens has launched a new initiative aimed at helping manufacturers reduce ramp-up times and achieve faster productivity by bringing together machine builders, software and automation technologies.

 

Called “Meet at the Machine,” the initiative creates a framework for Siemens and machine builders to jointly develop integrated machining solutions focused on real-world manufacturing challenges.

 

The initiative combines engineering software, automation hardware and machine expertise into a connected solution, with the goal of helping manufacturers improve productivity, quality and performance while enabling machine builders to deliver differentiated value.

 

The launch comes as manufacturers contend with growing operational complexity, workforce shortages and increasing pressure to reach productivity targets faster. Although advances in automation, software and digitalization are creating new opportunities, companies continue to face challenges in connecting these technologies across production workflows.

 

Siemens said the initiative is intended to address that gap by creating a continuous digital thread linking engineering, programming, virtual validation and machine execution.

 

“Manufacturing truth has always ultimately been at the machine,” said Mark Hindsbo, head of Operations Software at Siemens. “By bringing together engineering software, automation hardware and machine expertise, we enable our customers and users to be productive faster, accelerate return on investment and reduce ramp-up time by up to 50 percent.”

 

The first phase of Meet at the Machine has been developed in collaboration with TRAK Machine Tools and focuses on helping part manufacturers become productive from day one.

 

A key target is the period between the delivery of a new machine and the point at which it begins producing parts. Siemens said the initiative brings software, automation and machine expertise together to allow manufacturers to program, simulate and validate production while the machine is still being built.

The approach moves programming, validation and training activities earlier in the machine deployment process. Rather than waiting until equipment is installed, manufacturers can prepare production workflows in advance, potentially shortening the time needed to reach productive operation.

 

Siemens said the initiative will also provide a foundation for improving the flow of data across the part-manufacturing lifecycle, helping manufacturers reduce complexity, accelerate ramp-up and support continuous improvement.
