St George has already defined a “world-class” mineral resource of niobium and rare earth elements at Araxá
Worley has been appointed by Australian miner St George Mining as feasibility technical advisor for its Araxá niobium and rare earths project in Brazil, marking a key step forward for one of the country’s emerging critical minerals developments.
The work will be led by Worley Consulting Brasil and delivered through its local subsidiary, Worley Engenharia Ltda, drawing on more than 60 years of experience in Brazil and deep global expertise in resources projects.
St George has already defined a “world-class” mineral resource of niobium and rare earth elements at Araxá, located in Minas Gerais—one of Brazil’s most established mining regions. The metals are increasingly vital to steel production, advanced electronics, and battery technologies.
“We’re pleased to partner with St. George to bring our regional expertise and global capabilities to support the Araxá Project,” said Tom Foster, Worley’s SVP for Global Operations - LATAM&C. “This partnership reflects Worley’s long standing track record in Brazil and our capability to support complex resources projects from early studies through to operation.”
Under the agreement, Worley will deliver strategic consulting, engineering, and project management services spanning feasibility and cost studies, metallurgical and process engineering, mine planning, process plant design, tailings management, procurement, and construction planning.
Worley Consulting will also coordinate the integrated delivery approach, providing study management, strategic advisory input, and local stakeholder engagement to ensure the feasibility work aligns with both project objectives and Brazilian regulatory requirements.
“Having supported the early engagement through Worley Consulting, we’re pleased to see this progress into feasibility support for Araxá," said Sergio Ariztia, VP for Worley Consulting - LATAM&C. "We’re bringing independent advisory and disciplined project definition to help inform robust, value-based decisions.”
St George Mining said the appointment will help accelerate development studies as it looks to fast-track the project’s advancement and leverage its strong logistics position.
“With a world-class resource already defined at our project, the appointment of Worley will enable our economic studies to gain momentum as we look to fast-track development and take advantage of our favorable project logistics,” said John Prineas, St George Mining’s Executive Chairman.
The Araxá Project will be developed in close coordination with St George’s in-country team as studies progress, with existing infrastructure and workforce access seen as key advantages.
