Worley has secured a new engineering and design services contract from Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials to support a major lithium-ion battery supply chain project in the United States.
The work covers engineering, supply chain and modularisation services, along with construction support, for Orbia’s lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF₆) production facility in St. Gabriel, Louisiana.
The facility will be Orbia’s first large-scale LiPF₆ plant in the US, with capacity to produce up to 10,000 tonnes per year. The material is a critical component in lithium-ion batteries and plays a key role in the domestic battery materials supply chain and broader US energy security ambitions.
Under the contract, Worley will deliver engineering and full supply chain services through its Louisiana office, supported by its Global Integrated Delivery (GID) team. The scope also includes a high degree of automation, designed to reduce manual operator tasks and improve operational efficiency at the site.
“This award reflects our capability to support increased customer demand for work in energy transition materials. We are pleased to continue the work we have done in previous phases of this strategically important project for Orbia, supporting the lithium-ion battery supply chain,” said Chris Ashton, Chief Executive Officer of Worley.
Worley said the award reinforces its role in supporting energy transition materials projects and expanding its work across the lithium-ion battery value chain.
