Röchling Industrial to transition to Celanese POM ECO-C materials based on Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) feedstock

In a major step toward building a more circular economy, Röchling Industrial has announced a strategic transition to Celanese POM ECO-C materials. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in industrial manufacturing, introducing engineering plastics derived from innovative Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) feedstock.

Through this partnership, Celanese will supply its Hostaform and Celcon POM ECO-C formulations to Röchling Industrial for the production of high-performance stock shapes. These materials represent Celanese’s lowest product carbon footprint acetal copolymers, utilizing low-carbon methanol certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC+) mass balance framework. By trapping and repurposing CO2 emissions before they enter the atmosphere, CCU technology delivers sustainable, engineered materials without sacrificing the mechanical properties or performance standards of traditional formulations.

“Röchling’s transition to our POM ECO-C highlights the practical role our CCU technology can play in providing lower-carbon engineered materials across a variety of industries, including demanding uses,” said Todd Elliott, Senior Vice President, Celanese Engineered Materials. “Celanese is uniquely positioned to deliver these solutions at scale through our integrated technology, global POM footprint and ECO-C portfolio, helping customers advance circularity goals and reduce product carbon footprints without compromising performance or quality.”

“Celanese POM ECO-C is an innovative way to increase sustainability within the chemical and plastics industry. Processing CO₂ that would otherwise be emitted and reusing it as a raw material helps reduce dependence on virgin fossil resources,” said Florian Helmich, Chief Sales Officer & Chief Technology Officer, Röchling Industrial.
