The MoU reinforces Vallourec’s broader strategy of partnering with leading specialists in New Energies

Vallourec and Geostock have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen their collaboration on the infrastructure needed for the energy transition, with a sharp focus on hydrogen storage and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).

The partnership brings together two highly complementary portfolios. Vallourec, a global leader in premium seamless tubular solutions, offers its turnkey Delphy hydrogen storage system, capable of safely storing up to 100 tons of hydrogen. Geostock, a specialist in underground energy storage, provides mined lined rock cavern solutions designed for much larger capacities of more than 500 tons.

Together, the companies aim to cover the full spectrum of storage requirements across the green hydrogen value chain.

The collaboration also extends to industrial expertise. Geostock’s subsurface and civil engineering know-how will support customers deploying Vallourec’s Delphy system, strengthening project execution from design through installation.

Beyond storage solutions, the agreement includes joint work on well architecture and tubular technologies for hydrogen and CCUS applications. The two companies will share R&D results and technical expertise to develop wells capable of withstanding the demanding conditions of subsurface hydrogen storage and CO₂ injection.

Vallourec’s extensively tested tubular solutions are expected to play a key role in ensuring the safety and performance of future underground storage projects.

The MoU reinforces Vallourec’s broader strategy of partnering with leading specialists in New Energies to address the industrial, environmental and economic challenges of the energy transition.

Philippe Guillemot, Group Chairman and CEO of Vallourec, commented: “This partnership marks an important step in strengthening our collaboration with a leading expert in underground storage. By joining forces with Geostock, we are accelerating the development of the infrastructure essential to build a performing low-carbon energy value chain in hydrogen storage and CCUS.”

Pascal Baylocq, CEO of Geostock said: “This partnership with a global leader in premium seamless tubes enables Geostock to broaden its range of solutions for underground storage of hydrogen in hard rock. The agreement between our companies also aligns with Geostock’s goal of staying at the forefront of knowledge.

"Vallourec’s expertise and research capabilities in metallic materials will be leveraged by Geostock across various underground storage techniques, in salt caverns, hard rocks, and porous media.”
