SRF Ltd has proposed to expand the capacity of its existing products at its unit at Jhiwana in Rajasthan’s Alwar district.

In its letter to the Ministry of Environment and Forest for environmental clearance to its proposal, the company said the production expansion will be carried out by optimisation and resizing of existing machinery.

The products manufactured by the company currently are 37,000 TPA of chloromethanes, 6,000 TPA HFC-134a plant, 2,500 TPA of fluorospeciality plants, and 12,000 TPA hydrofluoric acid plant.

The company now proposes to produce an additional 13,000 TPA of chloromethanes, 6,000 TPA of HFC-134a plant and 500 TPA of fluorospeciality plants.

The total land area is 34 hectares and the company said no additional land is required for the expansion project. The area under green cover is 12.24 hectares.

The proposed expansion project will cost Rs 55 crore.

The company said there is also no additional water requirement for the proposed capacity enhancement project.

There are no defence installation, biosphere reserve, national park or wildlife sanctuary and ecologically-sensitive area within 10 km radius of the project site, it said.

Justifying its expansion plan, SRF Ltd said the products manufactured by it are used for a variety of industrial, commercial and household application.

"Fluorospeciality chemicals are used as intermediates in pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. As the consumption of these chemicals has increased significantly therefore project proponent wants to enhance its production capacity
by resizing their equipment," it said.

According to the company, there will be no adverse effect on water environment due to the project. Also, there is no increase in effluent generation from the proposed project because of strong thrust on various reduce/recycle/reuse
measures.

The company said it will adopt all hazard identification measures to ensure safety and providing all medical facilities to its employees.
