BASF has launched a new chapter in canola production with the introduction of InVigor Gold L322, a next-generation hybrid designed to push canola cultivation into hotter, drier regions of the United States.
The seed will first be available in Montana in 2027, pending regulatory approval.
The company says the breakthrough hybrid builds on its established InVigor portfolio, offering improved yield stability and consistent performance across tougher growing conditions.
Field trials suggest the variety is especially suited for arid environments, higher heat, and soils with lower organic matter—areas where canola has traditionally struggled to take hold.
“InVigor Gold L322 represents a major step forward in helping farmers do the biggest job on Earth by expanding where canola can successfully grow in the US,” said Albre Brown, Canola Marketing Manager for BASF Agricultural Solutions.
“InVigor Gold L322 is a key addition to BASF's impressive line of InVigor hybrids, the most trusted canola seed on the market for over 25 years.”
What sets the new hybrid apart is its earlier maturity, allowing crops to flower and finish faster—an advantage in warmer, drier climates. BASF also highlights its native pod shatter tolerance and integrated LibertyLink weed control system, which together are intended to improve harvest security and in-field management.
The company says InVigor Gold L322 could give Montana growers a new rotational crop option, improving flexibility and potentially boosting whole-farm productivity and profitability.
If successful, the launch marks a strategic expansion of BASF’s push to adapt major crops to climate-stressed regions, opening the door to broader canola adoption across the US High Plains and beyond.
