The partnership will focus on the phased localization of alkaline electrolyzer module fabrication

thyssenkrupp nucera has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) to localize the manufacturing of alkaline water electrolyzer modules in India, strengthening its foothold in one of the world's fastest-growing green hydrogen markets.

The partnership will focus on the phased localization of alkaline electrolyzer module fabrication, combining BHEL's engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities with thyssenkrupp nucera's electrolysis technology.

The companies will also jointly participate in tenders for green hydrogen projects and support project execution across India.

"India is one of the most important growth markets for thyssenkrupp nucera," says Kiran Joseph, CEO of thyssenkrupp nucera India.

"Scaling green hydrogen in India requires solutions that are reliable, scalable, and aligned with the country’s industrial ambitions. This collaboration with BHEL underlines our commitment to support the build-up of a robust green hydrogen market in India over the long term."

The collaboration advances thyssenkrupp nucera's long-term strategy to expand its presence in India's clean energy sector while leveraging BHEL's extensive manufacturing network and decades of experience across power, renewables, oil and gas, transportation, aerospace and defence.

For BHEL, one of India's largest state-owned engineering and manufacturing companies, the alliance positions it to play a larger role in the country's rapidly expanding green hydrogen industry through localized electrolyzer production.

The agreement also builds on thyssenkrupp nucera's recent push into the Indian market. Earlier this year, the company partnered with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to support the development of green hydrogen and Power-to-X markets in India. It also secured a front-end engineering design (FEED) study for a 260-megawatt green hydrogen project from Indian developer Juno Joule.

The latest partnership underscores thyssenkrupp nucera's ambition to become a key technology provider in India's emerging green hydrogen economy as the country accelerates efforts to scale domestic clean hydrogen production.
