Nayara Energy has successfully completed its 2026 turnaround at the Vadinar refinery on schedule. This marks a major operational milestone for India's second-largest single-site refinery and reinforcing the company's role in safeguarding the nation's energy security.

The large-scale maintenance, inspection and upgrade program was executed amid a challenging global geopolitical environment, demonstrating Nayara Energy's operational resilience and its ability to undertake complex refinery interventions while maintaining uninterrupted fuel supply.

A key pillar of India's energy infrastructure, Nayara Energy contributes nearly 8% of the country's total refining capacity and around 7% of its retail fuel network, alongside an expanding petrochemicals business. At the heart of this ecosystem is the Vadinar refinery, which plays a critical role in meeting domestic fuel demand at scale.

Periodic refinery turnarounds are among the industry's most critical planned activities, designed to maintain safety, reliability and long-term operational performance. The successful completion of the 2026 turnaround underscores Nayara Energy's commitment to ensuring consistent and dependable energy availability for India.

The turnaround was executed through a highly coordinated, cross-functional effort involving operations, maintenance, safety, procurement, logistics and workforce management teams. More than 34,000 personnel participated in the exercise, supported by approximately 480 pieces of heavy equipment, including 180 cranes, highlighting the scale and complexity of the operation.

Beyond essential maintenance work, the company used the shutdown period to enhance refinery capabilities and drive efficiency improvements. Several value-enhancement projects were implemented to improve product quality, optimize process performance and support longer operating cycles between future maintenance shutdowns.

Nayara Energy also introduced energy conservation initiatives across refinery units aimed at reducing consumption and lowering emissions intensity, supporting the company's broader sustainability objectives.

Safety remained a top priority throughout the turnaround. The company deployed a structured safety management framework that included mandatory task-specific training, drone-enabled safety communication and rigorous adherence to operational protocols.

The massive operation was further supported by advanced technology and robust on-site infrastructure. AI-driven crowd movement management was used to coordinate a peak workforce exceeding 35,000 personnel, while nearly 450,000 meals were served on-site and dedicated cooling arrangements were put in place to support teams working in demanding conditions.

The successful completion of the turnaround strengthens the long-term reliability and competitiveness of the Vadinar refinery, positioning Nayara Energy to continue meeting India's growing energy needs while enhancing operational efficiency and infrastructure resilience.
