GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (GMPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of GAIL (India) Limited (GAIL) has successfully commissioned its 1.25 MTPA Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) manufacturing plant located in the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), Karnataka.

The successful commissioning of this facility marks a major milestone in GAIL’s strategy to expand its downstream petrochemical footprint. This achievement stands as a direct testament to GAIL’s unwavering commitment, sustained management guidance, and the shared dedication of the GMPL team alongside our technology partners, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders. Beyond reviving a vital industrial asset, this milestone successfully realizes our long-term strategic vision and opens a dynamic new chapter in GAIL’s growth story.

The facility was originally established by JBF Petrochemicals Limited (JBPL), which later entered the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP). In 2023, GAIL acquired JBPL through a National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved resolution plan, overcoming significant engineering, technological, and operational challenges to bring the plant back online.

PTA is a key raw material used in the manufacture of polyester fibre, yarn, PET resin and other polyester-based products, finding extensive applications in the textile, apparel and packaging industries. With an installed capacity of 1.25 million tons per annum, GMPL's facility represents a significant addition to India's domestic PTA manufacturing capacity and is expected to strengthen domestic availability of this critical raw material, reduce import dependence and support the growth of India's downstream polyester industry.

Strategically located near New Mangalore Port, the plant is also supported by dedicated logistics infrastructure for efficient movement of raw materials and finished products.

GAIL will market the product under the brand name 'G-Tex', leveraging its established marketing network and customer reach.
