Overview

The global chemical industry has made moderate progress in 2024 as compared to 2023. The industry estimates that production levels will continue to rise as the destocking cycle wanes and demand rises across most products.

According to a Deloitte Report, as we enter 2025, the chemical industry landscape is unfolding with a mix of challenges and opportunities. The 2025 outlook for the chemical sector suggests a shift toward a high-tech and low-carbon future. The report suggests that companies should consider transformative trends - Cost Efficiency, End Markets, Innovation, Sustainability and Supply Chain to navigate dynamic landscape.

Fitch forecasts a neutral outlook for the global chemical sector in 2025, given the continuing soft demand and oversupply along most value chains. According to Fitch, chemical margins will remain under pressure despite modest volume improvements and lower energy and feedstock costs, as a more robust economic recovery would be needed to absorb overcapacities while geopolitical risks mount. Also, the announced capacity rationalisations globally will help but will not be enough to rebalance markets

Despite all these odds, India holds a strong competitive edge due to emerging geo-political situations, China+1, improving infrastructure, ease of doing business, abundant raw materials, skilled workforce, robust domestic market, and policy push. The Indian chemical industry, as one of the key sectors of the country’s economy, plays a critical role in contributing to India's industrial output and exports.

As of 2022, the Indian chemical industry was valued at US $220 billion and is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 9-10% over the next few years. According to McKinsey, the Industry is set to reach the market size of US $1 trillion by 2040. To capture this optimism, Indian Chemical News is bringing out “Chemical Industry Outlook 2025," compendium in April, 2025.
