NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has announced the launch of a new multinational initiative aimed at protecting the Alliance’s access to critical raw materials vital for defence production.

 

The new High Visibility Project brings together 12 NATO Allies in a coordinated effort to strengthen the resilience of defence supply chains, focusing on the acquisition, storage, transport, and management of essential raw materials, components, and recycled products.

 

Addressing the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum in Ankara, Rutte highlighted the strategic need to safeguard the industrial foundations that underpin Allied security.

 

“For our defence to remain ready and strong, we need our industrial base and our supply chains to be resilient,” he said.

 

The initiative is designed to reduce vulnerabilities in strategic supply networks and improve secure, reliable access to materials needed for defence manufacturing. By working together, Allies aim to build stronger and more stable supply chains capable of supporting long-term defence readiness.

 

The project brings together Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and Türkiye.
