Atomgrid is doubling down on R&D-led value creation to build proprietary products and deepen its global footprint

Atomgrid, a full-stack specialty chemicals platform focused on agrochemicals, has inaugurated its new Research & Development centre at the KIADB Industrial Area in Jigani, Bengaluru.

The move positions the company to capitalise on a global realignment in chemical supply chains as manufacturers increasingly diversify away from China.

The move also signals a clear strategic pivot: instead of following the traditional Indian specialty chemicals playbook of manufacturing-first growth, Atomgrid is doubling down on R&D-led value creation to build proprietary products and deepen its global footprint.

While much of India’s specialty chemicals industry remains manufacturing-heavy with limited innovation depth, Atomgrid is taking a reverse approach—establishing downstream global relationships first through distribution, registrations, and customer access, and then integrating backward into proprietary molecules and formulations. The new Bengaluru facility is designed to power that strategy.

“India is at an inflection point in specialty chemicals. Global customers are actively looking for alternatives to China — but they’re looking for solution providers who combine innovation with execution.

"This R&D centre is our commitment to being that. We’re focused on developing proprietary processes for active ingredients and patented formulations for global markets, built on a platform that already has distribution in 10+ countries and over half its revenue from exports, said Siddharth Gupta, Co-Founder, Atomgrid.

The centre currently employs 15 scientists and researchers, with plans to scale up to 25 within the next year. Its capabilities span the full innovation chain—from route scouting and process development to technology transfer for commercial-scale production.

The focus is on high-purity, cost-efficient active ingredients and patented formulations, supported by robust process chemistry and quality systems capable of meeting both regulated and non-regulated market requirements.

“Our goal is to close the gap between lab-scale innovation and large-scale manufacturing — reliably and repeatedly. India has deep chemistry talent. What’s historically been missing is the process rigour and quality infrastructure to take innovations to a global scale. That’s exactly what we’re building here.”

The R&D centre is expected to accelerate Atomgrid’s commercialisation pipeline and support its expanding global registration programme, which already spans more than 10 countries. Over the next five years, the company aims to build a meaningful intellectual property portfolio and establish its Bengaluru facility as a recognised hub for specialty chemical innovation.
